The Lion

Look at the Lion is the first porcelain sculpture of the series called “Carnival of the Animals”. The title refers to the musical cycle Le Carnaval des Animaux, a work described by the french composer, Camille Saint-Saëns, as a zoological fantasy. It is a cycle of fourteen miniatures of illustrative music. Each musical piece represents one “animal“. The first one called “The Royal March of the Lion” is composed for string instruments and two pianos.

Character of musical pieces was an excuse to imagine a personality, look and form of each animal. They always should be interpreted in the surrounding of Camille Saint-Saëns music.

Each of the sculptures is painted by hand by the Artist and have completely unique set of colours. There are no two alike - reminding us of nature’s principles.

The sculpture is currently exhibited in Vicente Gracia Workshop (C/ de la Pau, 4, Bajo Izquierda) in Valencia, accompanied by his impressive pieces of artistic jewelry.
